Gildo V., a former New York City police officer, was in all appearances a loving and caring husband, and his hobby very much pleased his wife: cooking. Everything changed when she discovered that the main ingredient of his new recipe was her. After months of him chatting online, convinced that he was cheating, she discovered that he was actually spending his nights on internet chat rooms describing detailed plans to abduct, torture, rape and cannibalize her. In 2013, he was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit kidnap murder and cannibalism, and then released in 2014 because the evidence supported his contention that he was ‘only’ engaged in "fantasy role-play”. Why he needed such a fantasy to escape reality, we don’t know. What we do know is that she didn’t need too much fantasy to escape from her husband.
